The UK is bracing for a wintry blast! With over 70 flood warnings in place, the situation is critical. But here's the catch: a yellow weather warning for snow and ice is adding to the chaos.
While previous snow and ice warnings have expired, a new alert has been issued for eastern Scotland and north-east England, starting Sunday evening and lasting until Monday morning. The Met Office warns of icy conditions, particularly on untreated roads and paths, posing a risk to travelers.
The Environment Agency is urging vigilance, as 72 flood warnings and 191 flood alerts were in effect on Sunday. Despite efforts to protect over 24,000 properties, around 330 have already been flooded.
And this is where it gets tricky: heavy rain is expected to cause flooding, but snow could also disrupt travel. Snowfall of 1-3cm is predicted at low levels, with higher accumulations at elevated areas.
As the Met Office explains, 'Rain and hill snow will give way to freezing temperatures and icy surfaces overnight.'
The week ahead promises more unsettled weather, with showers on Monday and another weather system on Wednesday. Thursday may bring some relief with drier conditions.
