Imagine this: a dynamic duo, in their inaugural season, poised to etch their names in NFL history. But here's the catch – it's not just about their individual achievements, it's the unique way they might achieve it together.
Los Angeles Rams receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams are on track to become the fourth pair of teammates to lead the league in receptions and touchdown receptions, respectively, since the NFL-AFL merger. This feat is as rare as it is impressive, with only three other duos achieving it before.
Nacua, with his 93 catches, shares the top spot with Cardinals' Trey McBride, while Adams has already secured 14 touchdown receptions, leading the league. If they maintain these positions, they'll join an elite group. In 2011, Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski achieved this with the Patriots, and Welker did it again in 2007 with Randy Moss. Going further back, Kellen Winslow Sr. and John Jefferson accomplished this in 1980 for the Chargers.
But there's more to Adams' potential achievements. He is on the brink of becoming the third player to haul in 15 or more touchdown receptions in his first season with a new team. The only other players to do this? Randy Moss (twice!) and Art Powell, way back in 1963. And if Adams leads the league in touchdown receptions, he'll be the first player ever to do so with three different teams. He's already done it with the Packers and the Raiders.
